Design Wall Monday

I've finally started quilting this month's 2019 UFO Challenge.

With the impending snow storm, will I have a chance to finish it?

We will soon see.

Of course there has to be a whoopsie.

Not really a whoopsie but I had quilting in there that I decided to take out.

So I cuddle up on the couch with spoiled rotten little dog to take out the stitching.

He loves to cuddle under the quilts.

He was a bit irritated with me when I moved the quilt.

He has a good stink eye!

So to make him happy again,

 I settled in with my basted quilt and we took a nap.

We are still staying with the kiddos in the mornings so I took a little projects.

I needed to pair my rectangles and mark the starting points.

In no time at all,

I had them all paired and marked and ready to sew.

I laughed at myself for all my tape marks. 

I have my main sew line, my bonus triangle sew line and my 1/4" line.

Made quick work of sewing my rectangles.

All these are sewed and pressed.

Even the bonus triangles that I have no clue what they will be used for.

Design Wall Monday

While I'm waiting for the Quiltville mystery to start,

I'm quilting July's UFO from Judy L's Challenge.

 Finally!

My #11 is Grandmother's Choice-Votes For Women Sampler.

I don't know why I was so scared to quilt this. 

I was super excited to get a ruler foot that finally I can use on my machine.

It's a Juki foot but it fits several high shank machines.

Well I did ok for a while but there is a learning curve and I want to get this done.

So I switched back over to my darning foot and got busy.

I sewed and sewed and sewed!

Sunday evening I was done!

Or I thought. 

See the sashing rows above Miss Polly?

I was showing it off and looked down and dang!

I skipped quilting the sashing on 3 rows!

I'll go back in the in the morning and quilt those.

Binding is sewn on so I'll have this finished this week.

Design Wall Monday

I'm pressuring myself to get caught up with the 2018 UFO Challenge.

I'm starting to write this blog post Sunday morning.

I am working on the borders today.

This is the UFO for August.

I was so afraid to start quilting it.

But after a heart to heart with myself,

I decided to go for it!

I wanted to use rulers.

My machine did pretty good for a while.

Then we started to struggle.

It was no fun anymore so I took the ruler foot off and went to free motion.

Now that was fun!

Lots of fun.

Not perfect by any means but neither am I.

And this is my quilt so no big deal.

Of course the seam ripper has to come out to play.

The machine has to be threaded right to get a good stitch.

At least it was an easy take out.

Sunday morning the borders have begun.

Can I do it?

Can I get the binding on it so I can take it to the beach to finish?

Not if I don't get back to it....

I knew I must be close so when I was ready to turn to the next border,

I checked.

I win!!!

This time... 😀😀

and the next 2 times, I was the looser. 

That black stuff...

That's a Teflon oven liner. 

I need to replace my supreme slider so I tried this.

It works great.

I bought it from Amazon last year and finally tried it out.

I just marked the needle hole and made it larger 

and tape it down with painter's tape.

Quilting is done, binding is sewn on.

Waahoo!!

I was going to get the next UFO out to baste today but
a cute little 6 year old reminded me that I said I would make her a new apron.
So a new apron will be made instead.

Design Wall Monday

After finishing the tumbler quilt last week,

I am in the mood to quilt!

Problem was I need to cut batting and make a couple backs.

During the week, I made 2 backs so

yesterday was the day to cut batting. 

I lugged out the big roll of batting and dropped it on my bed.

Before too long, I had 4 quilts cuddling with their batting and backs.

Most of the binding is already made,

I just have 1 that has the strips cut but not sewn or pressed.

This quilt is big. and will use up most of the 98" width of the backing.

I used a sharpie to mark the top of each piece.

I don't want to get it almost all pinned and notice that something is turned wrong.

Been there, done that, don't want to do it again.

Funny thing about basting Millifiore is that she was the August UFO.

I did nothing to her except get her off Mt. ToBeQuilted.

Same with Grandmother's Choice Sampler -she was July's UFO.

That sweet little 30's sampler, she was included in my grand plan

with these other 2 on August 1!

Sometimes my grand plans go south on me! 

So what if it takes me 2 months to get my plans back home,

they are here now and each has taken a step forward.

They are all off Mr ToBeQuilted and ready for the finish line.

Judy L chose #9 for this month's UFO.

I thought that was last month but her list says #4.

So I guess mine for this month will be #4 which is my On The Road Quilt.

Design Wall Monday

Nothing on my design wall this week!

I am so close to being finished with this month's UFO from 

the 2018 UFO Challenge at Patchwork Times.

I am still 2 behind but I'm ok with that.

I need to add the binding but it's ready to go.

I wanted to grab a picture before dark.

Tumblers was the Quiltville 2015 Leader/Ender Challenge.

I used my Accuquilt 3" tumbler die to cut my pieces.

At some point I decided I wanted a dark border.

I used up so many little pieces of fabric!

I still have so many little pieces of fabric!

A few years ago, my friend Harriet gave me bags of panels.

I have used some of them for the back of my

Ultimate Scrap Quilt Like Julie's.

This time I cut 4 different fabrics into 10 1/2" squares.

It's kinda hard to tell that I arranged them in a diagonal pattern.

I love this piece.

I used lots of fun prints. 

Why do I always have to fold over the backing?

Guess it's not fun until the seam ripper comes out.

UFO Challenge Report

Holy Cow! How did it get to be August so fast.

Wasn't it just Christmas?

Judy L has pulled the new UFO number for August.

Lucky me, my #3 is Millifiore. 

I'm excited to get this finished but terrified at the same time.

There is a bit of irony for me about this selection.

You know on Facebook how your memories show up?

One of my memories this morning is this photo.

It was 2 years ago today that I was at this step.

I have however reached the point in my life of just get it finished.

Don't worry so much about it.

No one can use or appreciate all the work if you don't get it finished.

So Millifiore, you're next.

The first step in to add the outer borders.

Thank goodness the fabric is with the quilt top.

Then I'll cut the batting for all 3 tops in this post.

(Once the roll is out, may as well cut them all.)

I previously bought a wide back for this so I'll be ready to baste.

The quilting design is already layed out on paper.

That will help a lot!

Wish I could say I made progress on Grandmother's Choice.

This is all the progress I made, I pulled it off Mt. ToBeQuilted.

That's as far as I got with her.

It's been super hot here so we've spent a lot of time at the beach.

Not much room for quilt basting there.

Instead I finished this sweet quilt top.

Take a top off the mountain, add another. 

Cross your fingers that this can be a 2 or 3 month UFO finish month.

I'm certainly going to try.

The 2014 Hexi BOM turned out cute!

Again I ask myself why did I wait so long.

A cute back.

This is for my grandson Leland.

He doesn't ask for much and when he first saw it, he loved all the blocks.

Today I asked him if he wanted it.

You should have seen that precious face light up.

It was fun to try to write words.

 Hugs, hearts, kisses and love.

This was a pretty good book. 

Not greatly exciting but it held my interest and kept me quilting.

Now that I am caught up with this years UFO Challenge from Patchwork Times,

I need to hunt down July's UFO.

It's in there somewhere.

Design Wall Monday

I've been working on moving some UFOs forward.

Last week I showed you the square in a square blocks,

they are for a border for this quilt.

I worked on Castle Wall blocks this week.

I needed 3 more.

Instead of hand piecing these, 

I decided to try machine piecing.

I should have tried that after the 1st 3 blocks,

it took some time but was fun.

Then I started putting the rows together.

Pin, pin, pin.

Next I run out of bobbin thread after "sewing" almost a whole row.

Whoopsie!

Swear, pin, pin, swear, pin.

This project has been put back on the shelf until it's number is called.

Next UFO to work on is my Triangle Gathering quilt.

This is not on the UFO Challenge list so I need to work on it until it's complete.

I decided not to make all the blocks-only 21

and use 21 string blocks for the alternate blocks.

I sew on phone book pages,

tear off the paper, then trim to size and cut my triangles.

I use the Essential Triangle Tool to cut my triangles. 

WhaaLaa! My alternate block.

I love strings!!

It feels good to get some of the UFOs moving along.

Design Wall Monday

WaaHoo, I sewed! and sewed and sewed!!!

Beach sewing square in a square blocks.

These will be a border for an upcoming UFO finish.

More beach sewing.

The final blocks for Mischief Quilt.

The 1st 2 rows are being sewn together.

Deli Geese was May's UFO and it's now complete.

It's headed for the beach for outside sitting.

I started a new project. 

I saw this quilt on the TV show Home Improvement.

I had to back it up, pause in just the right place and take a picture.

Then I started doing an internet search until I found a picture of  a whole quilt.

I found a picture of an Antique Diamond Star on Linda Franz's website.

That story lead to this story at Piece N Quilt.

So I got out some recycled shirt fabric and then ordered diamond papers from Paper Pieces.

When the papers arrived, I had to cut fabric.

Then I had to baste a few.

They are large enough that I won't glue baste. 

I need lots more variety.

I need lots more time to cut but until I do, I have plenty to baste right now.

May UFO Is Finally Finished!

I'm still behind on my 2018 UFO Challenge.

June's quilt is up next.

I'm so excited to have this finished the May UFO.

It took longer to quilt than I thought it would but

you really need to sit at the machine to get things done.

I'm a firm believer in finished is better than perfect and

this is far from perfect! 

I used flannel for the back and

quilted it with lots of curves and swirls.

It was pretty fun.

About mid way I wondered why I didn't just meander!

Really I wanted to practice free motion curves and there were a lot of them!

It's now in the washer and will live at the beach as a sit outside and cuddle quilt.

I've pulled out the June project.
I made the backing and the binding.
I'm ready to baste it and get started on it.

Design Wall Monday on Sunday Night

Last week was a super busy, fun week at the beach. 

We cane home Wednesday and after catching up with everything,

I started quilting the Deli Geese Nickel Quilt, 

which is my May UFO.

After stabilizing everything with the walking foot,

I switched over to free motion quilting.

I'm working on my curves.

I have a long way to go. LOL 

This precious babe is my great niece Timberley.

I delivered her quilt to her the other day and got some serious baby cuddle time.

She is such a doll and so is her mom!

This clock is now decorating my sewing room.

Such a sweet birthday gift from our daughter DeeDee.

She knows me so well. 

This week we are headed back to the beach. 

I'll work on my quilt Monday but don't think I'll finish it before we leave.

I have a couple of cutting projects that I plan to work on getting kitted up this week.

I joined a charity quilting group at the beach but I won't be there when they meet this month.

I'd like to have 2 or 3 quilt tops ready when I am able to go.
