I Like Thursday #46

Last Thursday I picked up the kiddos and brought them over to earn some $$

On the way over, I explained what a side hustle was.
School is their main hustle and earning money is a side hustle.

We believe in teaching the kids about hard work and the rewards of that work.

We also believe that some jobs are because we are family
and that's what family does.

Wood is their summer side hustle.
Gramma and Poppy couldn't be prouder of how hard theses kiddos worked.
Lunch, fresh made chocolate chip cookies and ice cream made the day a bit more special!

I don't like to mend but I do it.
And when I do I remember time spent with my Mother in Law as she taught me
"the proper way to mend".
She told me as a young couple, we didn't need to spend our hard earned money on new clothes
for her son to go to work in and rip up.
So for our 46+ years of marriage, I've mended work clothes.
I like remembering that day.
I miss her a lot.

Friday we went to the beach for a few days.
I was ready for some sewing time.
I grabbed Betty Brother and a bag of batik scraps.

Channeling Victoria Findlay Wolfe, I started making fabric
and cutting with my Drunkard's Patch.
I have lots of parts and pieces ready to make blocks.

Tony Stewart did really good riding in the new car.

On the way home we stopped for gas and Daisy decided it was her turn to drive.

Little Jessie's bed fits perfectly and Daisy gets to have her head on the arm rest.
Dogs are so funny!

I Like Thursday #45

I took a bit of a blogging break.
I really missed my Thursday posts.
So here I am again. 😃

I like using my clothesline.
When I asked hubs if he would tighten it up,
we figured out these posts have been here over 43 years!
She really needs a new coat of paint.

I'll be saying goodbye to my beloved Honda soon.
She's served me well for over 17 years,
only leaving me stranded once.

I hope this one serves me as well.

I love baking bread.
This is my favorite recipe.
I added some Herb de Provence to the dough.
Oooohhh yummy!

I love my container garden.
The big ole Steller Jay loved my lettuce seeds.

I love how happy Elliot is that he is taller than Aunt DeeDee.
I also love how big their smiles and hugs are when they are surprised to see her.

The library is a magical place!
I'm stepping out of my quilting comfort zone with some of these techniques.
I'm pretty excited about that.

Tomatoes on the vine.
I can smell their deliciousness!

Have a wonderful week.

I Like Thursdays #44

Happy Thursday!
Is there anything more soul filling than sunset over the ocean.
We spent last weekend at the beach.
The weather was gorgeous so the sunsets were stunning!

The drive home along the Columbia River is magical.

Corbin finally lost his tooth.
I've been checking it every morning for him but
never attempted to pull it.
He did it himself and was quite proud.
The Tooth Fairy is very generous.

Funny story.
We sent this picture to Aunt Jen in Texas.
She asks if she can borrow money.
No, you will just spend it.
She replies with a GIF of a dancing taco.
And says she will spend it on tacos, she loves tacos.
His response was I knew it!

So he sends he a picture of his banana that was going in his lunch.
I love their long distance relationship.
The pictures she sends to him of herself after she uses the
Snap Chat filters on them or hilarious.

I wanted to do a few garden containers on the deck
so I asked Ernie to build me a couple of benches out of scrap wood..
After we talked about it,
he thought tables height would work good.
He can always cut them down if needed.

We made a trip into town for a few plants
and supplies.

We bought buckets and totes and landscape cloth and some soil.
I've been learning about wicking container gardens on You Tube.
I told Ernie it might be overkill on the landscape fabric.
We'll cut down on how much we use in the future.

Arms Family Homestead is a favorite channel that I share with the kiddos.
He has fun videos of goats and his dogs and his beautiful high tunnel full of crops.
That led me to Leon's channel which is full of information.
I totally fell in love with him.

Here are our first containers.
Cauliflower and broccoli.
I have so many plans that I had to make a list.
We are going to try to grow cucumbers and squash in a garbage can filled with water.
We will use what we have before investing any more money.
I'm pretty excited about all of this.

I really like that Ernie is on board with my new plan.
I think out deck is going to be overrun with produce.
What's not to like about that!
Bad back and an awesome garden,
something to look forward to.

Have a wonderful week.

I Like Thursday #43

Here it is Thursday again and
here I am late with my post again.

I have a good bunch of likes this week.

Last Thursday this munchkin stayed home with a bad cough
so we brought him over to our house so he could spend the day with Daisy Dog.
She make him feel so much better.
Or it could have been the nap he took with Poppy in the chair.

With no babysitting duties for Friday,
we headed to the beach.
Saturday we drove around to see what's changed.
I love this old church in Oysterville.
It looks like it's getting a facelift.

We say this beauty with 2 of her friends.

One of the community groups planted all these daffodils.
It saddened me to see that some jerk thought it was ok to drive through them.

This is the view from our favorite rest stop looking
across the Columbia River from Oregon into Washington.

Hubs has wanted to tear down the old garage for a long time.
It looks like the time has come.
He's sure a handy husband!
But oh boy, he makes me nervous!

The camellia's are blooming!
Such a pretty shade of pink.

Joe Cockerdoodledo with his flock of ladies.

Happy Thursday everyone!

I Like Thursdays #42

I like a beautiful morning sky.

Kids are still sick so out comes Lord of the Rings Monopoly.
Gramma has never seen these movies so I was at a huge disadvantage.
But that didn't matter.
wink wink
Teach your children how to lose gracefully.
In my not so humble opinion,
that is a very valuable life lesson.

I need to sew 60 quarter square triangles.
I took my supplies with me and cut while the kids watched a movie.

I spent lots of time basting diamonds.
I really like having things ready to take with me
and this is the perfect project.

This little goofball.
I apologized for forgetting to bring him a piece of pumpkin pie.
"I don't want a piece of pie, I want the whole pie!"
So Gramma made him his own pie to share with his family.
And following family tradition,
pumpkin pie for breakfast!

Have a great week.

I Like Thursday #41

Another week gone.
Another week filled with wonderful things.

Granddog Sadie wearing Corbin's favorite hat.
It lasted long enough to get a picture.
She is not a ball cap girl!

Sometimes we send pictures to Aunt DeeDee just to say good morning.

I want the snow to be done for the winter.
Nothing accumulated.
It is pretty to watch.

Bruce Lee, back left,
Joe Cockerdoodledoo on the right.
We think maybe Bruce Lee is not a rooster.
Guess we'll know for sure if he lays an egg. LOL

The chicks are finally in their new home.
The beach babes are being good to them so far.
The beach babes are the hens we are taking care of while our friends are in Arizona for the winter.

My camellia bush is going to explode in color soon.
When we were kids, we used the leaves on mom's bush as play money.
She did not appreciate that at all.

Little Jessie Dog thinks he is the king of outside.

More snow!-Gotta say, I'm wasn't liking it.
I do like the way the clouds hang over the meadow and
you can see the big hill between the layers.

New fabric.
Oh I like new fabric.
This is the finishing fabric for my current leader/ender project.

Have a wonderful day everyone.
Be sure to visit my friends that are hanging out at

I Like Thursday #40

Thursday, the day to celebrate things we like.

Random likes from my week.

Miss Polly.
She needs to be the center of attention.

Mornings with the Grands.
Coloring with Corbin.
My page says Reach For Greatness.
The Hello Kitty plate held a bagel.
It was made to apologize for the bagel he stole from me last week.
That boy is as funny as his Gramma.
The coffee cup says Mama Said Sew.
I bought it for Crystal since she is my only sewing daughter.

2 quilt finishes in a week make me very happy.

Working on a new quilt makes me very happy too.
