Another UFO Bites The Dust

It feels great to have this quilt finished. I really didn't like it. Not one bit! But Granddaughter Taylor did so I quilted it for her. Funny thing is, now I like it. This was a Quilt Along from 2010/11. I used old batiks to get them out of my stash. Then the blocks aged for a while. I pulled them out one day, ordered some sashing and border fabric from Thousands of Bolts and put the top together last spring at retreat.  Then it had to age a bit more. 

One day while Goodwill shopping, I found this 10 yard piece of fabric. Perfect backing fabric for a horse crazy teenager.  This quilt has been washed, dried and crinkled. Perfect for a cuddle on the couch quilt.

Now to pick the next UFO........

My Goodwill Find

Today was grocery shopping day. On the way home, I was going to drop of box of stuff off at Goodwill only I forgot it at home. So I went inside just to look around-I always have a Goodwill list. I found nothing that needed to come home with me until the very last isle and there it was.

This fabulous old scrappy quilt. It's been well loved and it shows. To me that makes it more special. I'm always sad when I see handmade quilts at Goodwill. Please people, call me, I'll come and get them!

I took it off the hanger to search for the price tag.... $60! (Our Goodwill is quite high priced.)  BUT it had a red tag on it and red tags are half price today! Score for me.  I didn't even unfold it all the way until I got home and ready to take a picture.

I was so excited by this quilt that I didn't even look at the other 2 that were there. Maybe they came from the same person. Regret!

Just look at that scrappiness. 

It is completely hand sewn. 

Are these fabric flour sacks?

Or are they yardage scraps?

I love the scrappy border.

The binding is wrapped around from the back.

The purple and white fabric are patches.

It's quite fragile.

The back is very yellow.....is it from age or were the bags yellow?

They are inside out.

This says ECONOMY

Oh yeah, I also found a vintage sewing machine but 

didn't buy it because it didn't have a bobbin case. 

Still thinking about that too.

My cherry tree blooms aren't going to last much longer.

We have had some pounding rain the last couple days.

It sure is pretty.

Color me happy!!!  Easy Street is now a quilt top.

My plans didn't go according to my plan but after dinner, Ernie had hunter's ed class and Bonnie is on QuiltCam.  It's so fun to sew with friends.  Even though they aren't in the same room, they kind of are.  It's really fun when she reads your comment and gives you encouragement. :0)

So Easy Street will now be folded up placed on Mt. ToBeQuilted.  The other day while at Goodwill, I found a 15 yard  chunk of lime green with purple plaid shirting for $20.  A pretty fabulous find that will be used for the back of this quilt.

It's been a pretty awesome day!

Knitting and Other Stuff

I am such a pushover! I am like Dory in Finding Nemo. I see something shiny and off I go! The latest shiny object is a pair of Paraphernalia socks. I tried to be strong. Really I did. But Judy L showed her's here and I had to jump on the band wagon. I went to my sock yarn stash and found this yarn that I bought quite a while back from Knit Picks. It probably wasn't the best choice to use but I'm fine with it. I will have a pair of socks with cables, whether they can be seen or not is fine with me. If they turn out good, I'll be happy to show them to you. LOL

I am not doing the knit along that she is doing but I am getting over my fear of cables. I thought this would be a good pattern to try and with Judy's encouragement, I am doing it. I'm sure there is a mistake or 2 but what sock of mine would be complete without one. :-)

So I can no longer say I am afraid of cables because I'm not. As long as I have my clicker and paper and pencil.

I am back to working on these socks too. It's been a while since I did anything on them and I really want them so I am back to knitting a few rows a night before I pick up the cable socks.

I've been spending some time perusing Goodwill for treasures. One day I found this fabulous curved plate to use as serving dish, 14 wide mouth pint jars and a bunch of forks and spoons.


After talking to the hostess of the hunting club picnic, I decided to get a stack of plates and silverware for big gatherings. Like she says, I can wash dishes but I hate buying, eating off of and throwing away paper plates. Sure got me thinking and now I'm all set.

Yesterday I found this cute little Tupperware child size cake carrier and it HAD to be mine. I wanted to buy Corelle dinner plates but the last time I was at Goodwill, there were none. Yesterday there were 28 dinner plates and 3 salad plates. I think I'm good for now. I'll still keep my eye out for a few more but not 28 at once. And I added a few more jars, forks and spoons to my collection.

My Mondays and Tuesdays are spent with Jonah. His new best friends and our new family members are Dozer and Turbo. Right now they are all cuddled up in the chair taking naps. It's hard to be 7 and get up at 5:30 to go to Gramma's. Some mornings require naps!

Goodwill Shopping and A Giveaway

I love shopping at Goodwill. This morning was a good shopping day. Among my purchases was a bag full of 15! almost full cones of serger thread and this partially finished dresser scarf (I'm assuming) with 3 balls of crochet thread and a size 5 hook (the giveaway).

After putting the bag in my basket, I made a quick phone call to ask Crystal if she wanted the thread and of course she did. There was no price on the bag and I tried to get it for $3 but after the price check, I paid $7. Still 15 cones of thread for $7, thank you to who ever cleaned out their sewing room!!!

Now for the giveaway, if you can figure out a crochet pattern by looking at what was already done and would like to have the partially finished dresser scarf, thread and hook, please leave a comment. Stash Report 10.3.10

I went to Goodwill......I love going to Goodwill. I found a nice stainless steel pitcher for my wooden spoons, a rack to hold my GO! dies, a t-shirt for me and 2 yards of 1994 Daisy Kingdom cotton that I had to bring home with me! Some days its just fun to stroll around the Goodwill Store.

Everything I used last week has already been accounted for. I finished 2 quilts, continued to work on the striped afghan and didn't work too much on the socks. I think I had a pretty good week if I forget Tuesday happened.
