Pooling Sock Yarn Challenge Complete
I'm quite happy to be finished with my 2 pair of socks that I chose to work on for the Pooling Sock Yarn Challenge at Patchwork Times. Sweet Georgia didn't pool at all. Here's the post showing this yarn.
Prinz Henry has some design to it but I don't think that's pooling. Here's the post showing this yarn.
My next pooling socks will be a happy accident. This was a fun experiment and I got 2 new pair of sock out of it. I even get to wear them soon as our weather is still pretty cool and wet.
These socks are finishes number 9 and 10 in the Sticks 'n Strings 2013 Challenge from Justquiltin' with Denise Russart. To see my other finishes, I have a tab at the top of this page.

On The Needles
I'm almost to the toe decrease on Sweet Georgia for the Pooling Sock Yarn Challenge.
I have a week to get this one finished.
I'd be farther along on Sweet Georgia if I hadn't spent my knitting time on these.
I've wanted to try toe up for a while
and this time I just sat down and started.
No hesitation at all.
I set them aside to finish Sweet Georgia.
This is another 3S Shawl using Jiffy yarn and size 10 1/2 needles.
I'm also doing a k1m1 for the center increases instead of yo.
I'm going to knit until I only have enough yarn for the edge.
Killing 2 birds here, a new shawl for me and this yarn out of the stash.

On The Needles
I'm working the gusset on Sweet Georgia sock 2. What I thought would be good pooling yarn-maybe it is but not for my size needles and stitch count. It's OK, I love this pair of socks just as it is. I'm going to work hard to get them finished before the deadline.
The end is in sight.

On The Needles
I'm still working on this pair of socks. They are matching up pretty good. I'm ready to start the toe decrease. I'll do another measure to be sure.
This week I think I've spent more time holding this sock than knitting. I sit down at night exhausted and achy, ready to just watch mindless tv and knit. Anyhow that is always the plan, then the eyelids get heavy and I either fall asleep in the chair or give up and go to bed.

On The Needles
The other morning I spent some time with my Kitchener stitch notes and some quiet concentration and stitched the toes closed to both completed sock 1s. Saturday night, Prince Henry sock 2 came along to the Safari Club International Banquet. I have such a hard time just sitting that I knew I could work on this while the speeches and auctions were happening. I made pretty good progress, starting at the marker.
I had to cast on this sock 2 because I just had to know how it would behave. I think I did pretty good getting my stripes to sort of match up but honestly it didn't matter to me if they did or didn't. I just wanted to try. I only had to wind off part of the dark section and all of the white. When I'm done, I'll just wind all the leftover yarn onto this little ball. I need to hurry, both pair need to be done by the end of May.
Last week Gail showed this shawl on her post using her leftover sock yarn, so you know I now have another project on my list!
So my yarn for the Pooling Sock Yarn Challenge is mostly a bust but I sure had fun hoping to get some results. I guess I only succeed at pooling when I'm not trying.

On The Needles
I've made great progress on my sock from last week. I've decided I'm not a good pooling yarn picker. I'm just going to knit socks and have fun with the way the colors end up. I have to hurry and finish this one so I can cast on sock 2.
I'm so anxious to see how the ribbing will turn out. I'm thinking there is no way I'm going to get this to be a matching pair of socks. If it does, great, if not, I won't care. After all, they sell unmatched socks in the store--my teen granddaughter loves them.

On The Needles
Sweet Georgia sock 1 just needs a bit of toe stitching and sock 2 can be cast on. I want to hurry and finish this pair so I can wear them. I love the colors. No pooling or flashing for the Pooling Challenge.
I started over on the Opal Prince Henry sock. I love that the short dark sections in the white are forming a diagonal. I'd like to believe I planned that but you all know I didn't. I couldn't have even if I thought of it. I'm curious what sock 2 is going to do.
I would love to just knit today since it's a rainy day but I can't. Too much to do, too little time.

On The Needles
My socks are not cooperating with the yarn pooling challenge. I thought for sure once the gusset was finished and I had decreased the stitches a bit more, the Sweet Georgia yarn would pool. No. But it is doing something a bit interesting. It is striping in long sections. See the heel? On the other side is a different colorway of stripes. It's doing the same thing now in the foot section.
The Prince Henry sock on the left is going to be unknitted and I'll start over. I think the needles are too big for this yarn. I also think I am going to do a ribbed leg instead of plain jane. I'll concentrate on Sweet Georgia first and get those finished.
I've been working on my Greta vest. I like how it is starting to take shape. I am going to work the armholes on this pretty soon so I can take those stitch holder pins out before I snag something major with them.
One thing I discovered about working all 3 of these projects this week is that I rather enjoy working on more than one thing at a time. Maybe it's working on the challenge or the changing of needle sizes from vest to socks or maybe it's just my lack of concentration with one project. I don't know. Whatever it is, it's working for me as I've made a bit of progress on all 3.

On The Needles
I'm not having much success with the pooling of my sock yarns. Prince Henry-on the left-is showing just a teeny tiny bit of pooling, Sweet Georgia, not so much. I wonder what kind of results I would have if I weren't wanting the yarn to pool.
There was a bit of a mishap with Sweet Georgia. Someone forgot to turn the heel before she started the gusset. (Shakes head and sighs!) So that brought about some needle pulling and picking up of stitches. Now someone needs to get her book out and read up on heel turning before she goes any farther. She will probably do that today.v

Pooling Sock Yarn Challenge-Yarn 2
While working on my Sweet Georgia socks last night for the Pooling Sock Yarn Challenge, I decided to get out another skein of yarn to see if I could get it to pool on the leg portion by playing with the stitch count.
I chose this Opal yarn from Simply Socks Yarn Company. This is a yarn that was gifted to my by a dear, sweet friend and is no longer available--the yarn, not the friend. The color is called Prince Henry, so that is what I will call these socks. I'll use size 2 needles and start with 60 stitches. If I don't get some pooling started soon after the ribbing, I'll add 4 stitches to see what happens.
I'm only going to knit these 2 pair of socks for this challenge. Anyhow, that's what I'm saying right now.
This is the photo I took last night before I started knitting. I couldn't decide which size needles to use, 1 or 2 and ended up choosing size 2.

Pooling Sock Yarn Challenge
This is sock 1 of Judy L's Pooling Sock Yarn Challenge.
I'm using Sweet Georgia, Tough Love Sock Yarn
from The Loopy Ewe.
The color is called Darkshore.
I'm knitting 60 stitches using size 2 needles.
It isn't pooling the way I would like it to.
I don't really care.
I'm hoping after the heel turn, the pooling will happen.
If not, no biggie.

with their pooling socks.
On The Needles
I was so excited to start my socks for Judy L's Pooling Sock Yarn Challenge.
I'm so disappointed.....
there is little to no pooling.
I LOVE this yarn though!
Maybe it will pool after the heel.
I should knit all day to find out for sure.
I made myself sew the zipper in Ernie's vest.
He is happy he can wear it now.
I'm happy is finished!
He teased about wearing it to work.
Silly Man! That's NOT gonna happen!
Now he wants one with sleeves!
Sweetie, we call that a sweater
and no, that's not gonna happen either.
Unless I can make him a sweater like this one.
The Flower Sweater is sooooo close to being done.
All it needs is buttons.
I'm making a special trip to town today to shop for buttons.
She tried it on the other night and is trilled.
You'll have to wait to see the whole thing until she can model it for you.
It will be worth the wait.
This sweater is so darn cute, it makes me giddy!
