Design Wall Monday...

...Really it was Design Bed Sunday. I have finally come up with a workable portable design wall idea.  Now I need to catch someone going to Lowe's or Home Depot.  It won't be a large as I want but right now anything will work better than the bed.  I wish I would have done this before I created this mess.  Back to the design bed!

***edited to say: My design wall plan is to cover a big hunk of the foam insulation with a flannel backed table cloth and lean it against a shelving unit.

Saturday I posted about laying out the Pineapple Blossom blocks.  Kathy commented that she put sashing between her blocks.  Head smack to me!  I forgot to lay mine out with the sashing blocks.  When you are working super scrappy, you need all the fabrics layed out.

Sunday was the layout-part 2.  Several rows are now sewn together with the remaining rows pinned all nice and neat, ready for the machine.  Today I will sew more rows, lay them out again for a final check on color placement.  It's so much easier to take a block out of a row than it is to take it out of the finished top. Wish me luck that I find it before the end.

See other fabulous design walls that have linked up to Judy L's DWM.  I love Monday in Blogland.

Judy, I'm anxious to see your portable design wall. Mine is an 8' X 4' sheet of panelling with white flannel draped over it. I can easily move it where I want. I can even lay it across the bed for sandwiching quilts. It works pretty well. I also have a 20" X 8' extension piece when I want a wider work space.

I can't wait to see this quilt all done! The bits you've shown look awesome!

Good luck with your design wall. Mine is just a couple of flannel backed vinyl tablecloths that I thumbtack to the wall, nothing fancy, but it works for me. Hopefully the bed isn't the one you need to sleep on.

Wow now that's a lot of pieces! Your brain must not be addled as mine is, I can't wait to see the finished product.

Since we're all giving unsolicited advice on design walls, mine is a big honking piece of some kind of foam insulation, about 2" thick, with a foil coating, I covered in a sticking material I found at a discount center. It's extra great because it's a design wall as well as a cork board--you can pin stuff to it as well as slap stuff on it. I find that handy when working with a difficult pattern.... not something you ever do. LOL!

gorgeous, well, I tend to just pull things out of the stack and sew. It's scrappy and I just go with it. Hmmmm spoken like a quilter without at design wall!!! Looks wonderful even without sashing...but I like it with the sashing better :)

I like it, so super scrappy! I have one in process from last summer, it got bogged down with a tiny star sashing, you make me want to pull it out again ~

What a great quilt! I love the scrappy look. But doesn't it seem like the layout for scrappy takes so much longer? I try to random and not fiddle to much. But fiddle is my middle name. I have the foam board for my design wall. I used two sheets and duct tape to keep them together, then covered. Works like a charm!!

Looking great! I can't wait to see a little more with the sashing sewn in. This quilt will really sing!

I took 2 pieces of the foam insulation, duck taped them where they would still fold over. I had to cut a little off the length so it would not be too tall for my ceiling, and covered with a cheap solid flannel I got on sale (using Elmer's glue and duck tape on the back to hold the flannel). I can fold it and stick it behind the dresser when I need to store it, and then open it out and prop it up when I need to use it.

I love my Foam board Design Wall. Covered with flannel is best. No pins needed. I put muslin on mine and wish I'd put the flannel on it now. That's why I go out and use Lynn's whenever I can... I like your pineapple blocks-- so scrappy! Happy Blogland hopping to you!

Oh, I love Pineapple Blossom all scrappy!!! Wow, it looks great. I made one several years ago in reds and whites with black sashing and it looked great.

Oh, Judy, for 5 years I had a 4x8 piece of covered foam board leaning against a set of shelves, right at the entryway of my living room. It worked great, except when there was a wind blowing and the door opened. However, it was wonderful to use tht until I could get an 8x8 wall. And even now it's frequently not big enough.
