On The Needles

Both pair of socks for the pooling challenge were finished in plenty of time so there was no pressure at the end to get them done. That feels good. Now I will just knit until another challenge comes along.

I didn't make much progress on my toe up socks. I need to sit down with the book and figure out where I start the gusset so I kind of took it easy.

This is the same photo as last week, but now the 3S Shawl has several more rows on it. When I measured the width the other day, it's 60" wide.  I am going to keep knitting until I run out of yarn--I have that skein and a small ball and one other small ball reserved for the end. When I get to that, it's time to knit another row and bind off.

As soon as Miss Judy L gets her On The Needles post up, I'm going to link to that. {The Link Box is up and it's here. }   If she is too busy to post that today, I certainly understand. I only nagged her about it once.  Not like last week when I didn't nag her at all and she forgot and blamed me.   I really love Friday On the Needle posts, I have found some awesome patterns-like the 3S Shawl- and have seen some amazing and inspiring work.  Thanks for that!!!

Nice progress! I haven't done toe-up socks yet. I'm still using the first pattern I've tried! So unadventurous.

It's nice not having the pressure of a deadline. Although sometimes that what it takes to not start something new. ;0)

The really neat thing about toe-up is you just try it on to see when to start the gusset. I like to slightly stretch the sock on my foot, then start the heel flap (which will be on the bottom side of the sock) when I still need about 2- 2 1/2 inches to the back of the heel. Then start the short-row heel when this fits just slightly less than your actual heel while gently stretched. My biggest mistake when I first started was making the sock too long and they were baggy. I have since learned to stretch it slightly when trying on, and the socks fit perfectly. You will love toe-up once you get used to it! I first thought the side of the gussets were not as neat as you get from cuff-down, but now I don't even notice them. Hope this info helps! Happy knitting!
