Design Wall Monday

2017 UFO Busting continues.

This table runner is finish number 6.

This is from July 2009.

I put it away and promptly forgot where I put it.

 I thought it was gone forever.

Recently I opened a bin to get something else out and there it was.

How long had it been since I had opened that bin?

I asked on Facebook which color binding I should use.

I even posted pictures of a few selections but no red.

Only because I didn't have any that looked good with these repro prints.

Thousands of Bolts to the rescue again!

I finished and wore another new shirt.

I made a design chance,

then neck too low for my comfort so I added a piece of lace.

After wearing it, 

I'll take the lace off and rework the neck.

I have enough fabric to combine with another piece 

and I'll use the lace on that one.

My plan to work on this month's UFO was put on hold.

I chased a squirrel instead.

Or as I am calling it, Squirrel!

She's been sharing these awesome epp blocks.

I fell in love and had to check them out.

Variation #3 is my favorite.

I ordered the kit.

It came a few days later.

I watched the videos and

started pulling batik strips that I have accumulated from strip swaps.

The aqua is for my center octagons and the pale green is for the neutral kite shapes.

Honestly I was only going to make one block to see if I liked it.

Originally I cut enough pieces for 7.

I sewed up one block and immediately started on number 2.

I know I'm weak.

I went back in and kitted up 18 more blocks.

And have the papers kitted up for the next 25.

I can rationalize all of this.

Of course I can. 😃

My On The Road Project is getting pretty good sized.

I need a small project to take to my Binding Friends group on Wednesdays

or to the beach.

This will be perfect.

I hope I don't finish it before the 15th when we meet again. 

Design Wall Monday

My design wall is the same as it was last Monday. Not one stitch was sewn into Tumalo Trails. Not one! Instead I got a bit side tracked and made myself a new bag. Alice is the newest free pattern from Swoon Patterns.

Saturday we were going to a picnic. I got up early because I had to take Alice along and she wasn't ready to go. The lining and outside were ready to sew together. When Ernie got up, I asked when he wanted to leave and he said whenever you want.  Silly man!  I told him I really wanted to take Alice along and only had 3 seams to sew. He understands that I might be a while. :)

When I was getting ready to sew the lining that needed a turning opening, I decided to go ahead and mark it so I wouldn't sew like I normally do and then have to rip.  I took the picture then proceeded to sew a couple more stitches......oh boy!!! I like to velcro my inside larger pockets closed. Just a tad of added security for me.

In the end, I love my bag, it is an easy sew, it is very roomy, my to go knitting bag fit inside along with all my other stuff and there is still room for more.

Will there be quilting in my week? Maybe, maybe not. Yesterday I cut out two more Swoon bags...Charlotte and Vivian. I can't wait to sew on these bags.!!!

There was a bit of hand stitching. I did all of these rosettes and one more set for rosette #2 of my Millefiore quilt. This is my 3rd rosette. I'm pretty excited to start sewing the hexies into the big rosette.

Design Wall Monday

I had such a good plan last week. My first project was to finish the blue stars for Smith Mountain Morning so I could put it away and get to quilting the hexi quilt.  I used the cornerstones for the courthouse steps block as my leaders and enders. That lead to sewing a few more of those blocks which lead to what the heck, may as well finish those up and be done with them.  So that's what I did. Smith Mountain Morning is ready to be laid out.

Then I took a coffee break and read some blogs. I read Katy's blog where she showed her 9 patch wall hanging.  Afterwards, I went back in the sewing room with intentions of putting SMM away but instead...

I started making 9 patches from the remaining 1 1/2" strips. Just a few, and a few more, and a few more. Next thing I knew I was laying out my 9 patches and sewing them together into 2 wall hangings.

One is finished, this one will be finished soon.  Pitiful isn't it! I am such a follower. But they are so cute and one will make a nice gift. I didn't have to store those strips. I used up 2 small pieces of fabric-one for the borders and bindings and one for the back and those scraps of batting I don't have to store. A method to my madness.  LOL

I can't sew without leaders and enders so I worked on more 9 patches. These started out as 4 patches but that plan changed to needing 9 patches.  See those extra blue and brown squares?  I cut the shortie/short strips into squares instead of putting them back in the strip bin.

I am making another plan for my week.  Let's see how I do...

• Finish the 2nd wall hanging.
• The Hexi Quilt--baste, quilt, bind.
• Take SMM to Wednesday group and decide on a layout.
• Sew some Pineapple Crazy blocks.
