One of the projects I worked on was hand stitching this hexagon quilt using plastic templates called Quilt Patis. (Julie at JayBird Quilts has an excellent tutorial on using these.) This is still one of my favorite quilts. I remember I wanted to make a small quilt just to see if I liked the working with these things. I used up old fabrics that I didn't want for anything else. I still love this quilt!
The other morning at 0 dark 30, I woke up thinking about a project I had started several years ago. I have never counted this as a UFO because I completely forgot about it. After finding it, I remembered I had planned to use these green hexagons in a vest. I don't know what I was thinking because I have never been a vest wearer. So now a new plan is happening.
I started thinking of a wall hanging and the next thing I knew, I had it drawn out in EQ7 and couldn't wait to get started. I thought I would replace some of the teals with truer greens but I've decided to leave them in. I have several sizes of Quilt Patis and will make all the applique flowers from hexagons. This coming from a person that wasn't going to do any more hexagons!
A few more greens to be sewn on and I can move on to the creams and blues. This is going to be so much fun!
See Kathy's fabulous project and check out what others are showing at Kathy's Hand Stitching on Sunday link party.

What a FABULOUS project!! It looks wonderful! I had a night like that earlier this week, except it was 4:30 am. I ended up getting up and doing some fabric cutting until I was tired enough to go back the bed at 7 am.
what a great way to repurpose your hexies! I used to have EQ5, but i really never got the hang of it and eventually decided I'd rather spend my time sewing than using a sewing program. So I'm very impressed by people who can make it work for them :)
Wow, das ist ja super schön.
Liebe Grüße Grit
Good to get the old project out. Love the hexies.
It is going to be a beautiful quilt. Way to find a use for something long forgotten!
Your design sketch is quite a teaser. I am anxious to see this project progress.
I loved this blog post! What time exactly is "0 dark 30"? I think I was awake then too! I loved that you work up with some creative inspiration that directed a misguided UFO into something new and fun!
Thanks for linking up!
So neat to remember a project and then completely rework it to get it moving again. Looking forward to seeing it's progress.
