Leader/Ender Love
Years ago, Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville taught me about leaders and enders. You can read about it here. Now I always have a leader/ender project going. The last couple years, Bonnie has had a group leader/ender projects, first was Bow Ties, then Spools and now the new project is Split 9 Patch.
Today is the Leader & Ender Spool Review and Link Up. I started this project in October 2012. I wasn't completely faithful to the spools, I used a few other things for leader/enders. I now have 75 blocks finished, with 5 ready to sew. When they are done, they will be turned into a wall hanging.
When Bonnie posted about the new l/e project, I had to chuckle. I had been managing a bag of scraps--meaning I was cutting and organizing to get rid of the bags. (My goal is to do a bag a week until I have no more bags of scraps.) I had a stack of 2 1/2" squares and a stack of 2 1/2" half square triangle parts. Perfect. I am now ready to sew half square triangles as l/e when the spools are finished.
I'm so excited to see everyone's Spoolin' Around projects. See them here. Thanks Bonnie!

Judy, Bonnie sure keeps us busy doesn't she? I did the bow tie challenge, but didn't start the spools. Seems I missed the start and then only heard about it again today when I read her blog post. I did print off the Split 9 Challenge and plan to participate in it. My 1 1/2" tote is so full I'm very inclined to do the spools after the fact. I don't do them as Leader and Enders though. It is when I have to cut the scraps where the time slows me down. Using up the 2 1/2" scraps is wonderful too as mostly I tend to use 2" squares. I love what you've done with your spools. It should make for a lovely wall hanging. Sandi
I didn't do Bow Ties OR Spools. For some reason Scrappy Sisters Choice called out to me. It started as a L/E project but it got all bossy and pushed other projects out of the way. The blocks are done but now IT is having to wait while I finish a quilt for the brother of one of the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots.
I am still doing the Bow tie L/E for now. I hope to start on the Split 9 Patches soon. I felt left out because I wasn't making spools last year. My parts and pieces for Midnight Flight have made good L/E since March.
The spools are cute and I'm sure will make a really nice wallhanging :)
I've never tried a L & E, but I really should since I'm a "fly by the seat of my pants" quilter.
Looking great!
We are having too much fun!
Keep going. They are so cute. I have tons more to go but cant wait to get a lap quilt out of them!!
