Design Wall Monday

My design wall is not about quilting this week or last. It's about doll clothes.  One DGD will be 5 this month and after looking at the American Girl catalog, she decided she really, really, really, REALLY wanted an AG doll.  But this Gramma won't pay that kind of $$ for a doll.

But I will buy her a doll that looks like an AG doll and I will make her a fabulous wardrobe.  My friend gave me some great Minkie scraps including that lime green that will be a poncho and some other fury stuff that became an awesome hooded jacket.  I'm having such fun making clothes for this doll.

It is tough having your birthday so close to Christmas.  And then there is the DGD that will be 13 tomorrow, she's not getting a doll, she's getting ---can't tell you, she reads the blog.  LOL

Oh boy, time goes fast!

What's on your design wall?  Check other fabulous projects at Patchwork Times.

Judy, I still have some doll clothes that my Grandma made for my Barbie many, many years ago, and I treasure them. Your granddaughter will love these clothes!

To say that AG dolls and their accessories are over-priced is an understatement.

Your GD will be thrilled to have a doll that she can actually play with and dress in the fabulous wardrobe you are going to make. Please post photos of your creations before you wrap them.

Making doll clothes... that brings back memories! Have fun with them and I know she will absolutely love them. It will also be a wonderful memory for her to cherish through the years. I still remember the wedding dress my mom made for my Barbie...50 years ago!

What fun fabrics! I'm with you....I will not be buying an AG doll. But a doll and wardrobe from G'ma is absolutely the best gift!

You bring back memories to my sewing room! My now 22 yo daughter was given an Am. Girl Doll.... with one outfit. Also, no way was I paying for those other outfits! I found the American Girl Doll patterns on E-Bay and bought those for not much money and sewed up Samantha's entire wardrobe and also knit her coats and sweaters for likely under $30! My treasured button box came in handy for the devil of the details. Have fun, what a lucky little girl

What a fun project. My mom is currently sewing doll dresses for all three of her granddaughters. She is having so much fun finding just the right buttons and trim for each one. So much more personal than an overpriced doll.
