Feather Lesson Results in a Finish
Judy L is posting feather lessons on her blog, find them under her tutorial tab. I have a feather phobia that I am trying to overcome. I am going to make feathers.
I made the Carpenter's Star top for the lessons but when it came down to starting to quilt on the quilt top, I just couldn't do it. So I got out this UFO which just happens to be the UFO for May in the 2012 UFO Challenge. I decided to just do it and quilted feathers in the border. Then I did a swirly meander in the center. I pulled out the binding pieces bag and made a binding and now this is finished.
And I made feathers! One corner looks pretty good, the other 3, not so much. My feathers look better on the bottom border than on the top. I do better going in one direction that in the other. I have lots of practice to do. I think I may just conquer this phobia.

I loved it when Judy said you will make lots of ugly feathers before you make pretty feathers. Your look pretty good to me.
I ama SO impressed! I love your just do it attitude. I think it looks great. I've been practicing on a small square, and I know I need more practice. Great job!
I like your swirly meander too. I am with you on being scared to make a bad feather on a good project. I need to make a practice sandwich and go for it!
I love your quilt, you did a fantastic job! I know what you mean about doing feathers, I am still trying to make them look good in every direction I quilt them. Enjoy your quilt! Marianne
woo-hoo for you! you will conquer this feather fear-practice is all you need-use paper and pencil to practice all of a sudden you will be in love with making feathers...they are addictive
Way to get a UFO completed, Judy! A feather in your cap!
I have a feather phobia too! I hope to get some sort of practice quilt thrown on the machine this summer and practice, practice, practice!
Feathers, I'm impressed, just the thought of them is scary.
