Design Wall Monday

After Saturday's post, all the blocks on my design wall have been put away.  I decided I was going to unpin this quilt, my oldest UFO, and pin baste a wall hanging that I listed for the Getting It Done Challenge. I had intended to hand quilt this but the batting I used was too thick and my fingers would never let me work on this like I would want to.  I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it.

Instead of unpinning and folding it up yet again,  I sat down at the sewing machine and started quilting.  This quilt has a very special place in my heart.  I am still not ready to share the story but the quilt is my therapy and has tons of tears soaked in to it.  I think this time was the magical time and I am quilting and remembering and at times I can smile.

A friend wrote a blog post one time about working on a quilt that made her sad. I told her that I got my quilt out once in a while and worked on it. After a time, put it away again. Sometimes 5 minutes were too many.  But after a long time and many therapy sessions with the quilt, it will be finished soon.

It's Monday in Blogland so that means there will be some fabulous design walls shared at Patchwork Times.

The old saying "Time heals" is really true. And sometimes we need to face what reminds us and work our way through it. I am happy for you that you are healing and working and will have a happy quilt to remember.

I am glad that you are healing through your process. This quilt process that has begun in sadness will end with a smile in your heart as you find your to the end of it's purpose. Then you will enjoy this quilt with all your being.

Quilting has helped many, many women heal over the years. May your "therapy" quilt bring you healing and peace.

Found you through Judy's Design Wall Monday. Your post resonates so much with my own heart. Last year our family took care of my Mom in her own room. We had a 24/7 vigil for a month. Sometimes I stitched on two projects while i sat with her. It was a most wonderful and most sorrowful time of my life. We are coming up on the one year anniversary in February. I will always remember where I was and with whom. With each stitch, i was stitching in a memory, a tear and a joy of being able to demonstrate my love for her. But, since her passing, i have only rarely been able to work on those projects again. Your post has been a blessing to me. May your work on yourt beautiful quilt be a blessing to you.

Oh Judy, warm thoughts are floating your way from me. I know what you're talking about. Sometimes quilts are tied to sad memories and working on them does bring sadness and also wonderful memories.
Take care, my friend!

It is a very pretty quilt. Hope that the few smiles you can manage now will temper the tears and bring you more peace.

Yes my friend...our quilts have our blood, sweat and tears all sewn up inside. So wonderful that you are finding a way to finish this up! I have a quilt that I put the wrong batting in to hand quilt also from my early days of quilting...must look and see if I can find it!

I can relate so much. I have several "therapy" quilts myself. I finished them all over a period of years. I think that when they finally have that last stitch in the closure and completeness can set in. Wonderful job on this quilt and to jump right in and quilt it is wonderful.
