On The Needles

It looks like my November socks will be finished in December.
I tried but it just isn't going to happen.
Maybe by the end of the weekend these will be finished.
Maybe not.
I'm not putting any pressure on myself.

What's on your needles?

Tiny Tuesday--Blocks R9 & 11

I'm calling this block R9.
As in Replacement 9.
I don't want to do hand applique
and my pattern was missing the templates.
So I found a different block in EQ7.
Works just fine for me.

Block 11 is one of my missing pages.
So I looked at Angela's block 11 and went to EQ7 and found it.
I printed the cutting directions for a 4 1/2" finished block.
(Angela has a tab for her Midgets and has a photo of each block.)
(Thanks for that.)
This block is not called Sheep field like I have written.
It is called Signal.

I'm seriously thinking about trying an applique block.
Maybe after Christmas.
What is happening to me?!!?!!?
My brain has Midget Fever.

Design Wall Monday

I'm so excited to be working on the borders for Hawaiian Sunset.  The top is all put together and I have about 30 more 4 patches to finishes.  That shouldn't take too long.

What is going to take a while is sewing all the blue wings on to them.  Or maybe not.  After all, I did the 600 flying geese in just a few days.  I love how bright and cheery this quilt is!

Easy Street Part 1

Easy Street Mystery had begun!
Find out all about it at Quiltville.
Look at the tabs to find Easy Street!
If you don't want to see my part 1,
leave now.
Thanks for visiting.

I was so anxious for Friday morning to get here.
I knew clue 1 would be online.
I woke up at 3:15 and wondered.
Could it be???
Yes it was.  LOL
I went back to bed.

Later, after just a few chores, I cut fabric.
I sewed, cut some more and pressed.

I have such fun fabrics.

My 4 patches are complete.
OK Miss Bonnie, I'm ready for clue 2.
I'll just work on something else until you are ready.

On The Needles

I've made a little progress from last week.
I think I only worked on these a couple times all week.

I'm wondering if I'll complete 12 in 2012 Challenge.
Right now, it's not looking too good.

See who else has linked up at Patchwork Times today.

Tiny Tuesday-Blocks 8 & 10

Midget block 8 is called Tri Color and is one of the blocks I was missing.
Angela at soscrappy has a tab on her blog with all of her fabulous Midget Blocks.
So I looked up a few of the blocks I am missing.
Open EQ7 and in no time at all, I have rotary cutting instructions for this blocks.
And in even less time, I have my block completed.

Block 10 is this little log cabin block.
I love these bright colors.

Block 9 is a little scary for me.
I have the page printed out but no templates.
I think I am going to follow Jill's lead and replace it with something different but similar.
I'm not that excited about hand stitching anything.
Maybe one day I'll try it but not today.

I'm linking up with Darling Jill's Tiny Tuesday.

Edit -- I've spent the morning working in EQ7 and have all my missing blocks printed out.  I'm feeling pretty smug/smart right now.  I have such a time in EQ7.  One of these days I'll have it figured out and be able to use it without having to run to my notes.

Design Wall Monday

It has been gloomy, wet and cold here.
I needed something bright and cheery.

Hawaiian Sunset did the trick.
She is very bright and cheery.

What Can $8 Buy?

Today was the Stash Builder's Sale sponsored by the local quilt guild.
I went with a plan.
I need aqua fabrics for the new Quiltville Mystery.

I found this fat quarter for $1.
That was the only piece I found.
I need to dig deeper into my stash for more aquas.

A lady was selling lots of wool and a few bags of cotton scraps.
I don't consider this size to be scraps.
I call them chunks.
This bag of Christmas fabrics was $2.
I think there is enough fabric for 2 or 3 candle mats.

And she had this bag full of flannel chunks.
I paid $6 for it.
There is at least 2 yards of yummy flannel.
The will fit in nicely with the flannel I already have.

My sweet friend Sharlene bought these for me.
They will go nice with some other backing fabrics I have.

I had a good time and showed fabulous scrap control.

I've already started saving for the spring sale.

On The Needles

The sock needles have been fairly quiet this week.  'Tis the season for not sharing projects.

I started November's socks for the 12 in 2012 Challenge but have not gone too far.  This yarn is Knit Picks Stroll Hand Painted. It's nice to knit with, very soft and I love the short color runs. These will be fun to wear.

See other On The Needles post at Patchwork Times.

Happy Mail

I love Happy Mail.
Today's mail brought me this fabulous skein of Opal Sock Yarn from Denise of Quiltquiltin'.
Denise picked my name as one of the winners of the Socktoberfest Opal Sock Challenge.

Thank you Denise.
I can't wait to use this.

Tiny Tuesday-Blocks 6 & 7

Midget block 6 is called Palm.
With easy paper piecing this block was made in an evening.

Block 7 is called At The Depot.
How cute is this!

I seem to be missing some pages.
I remember thinking that I would NEVER make these
so I used some pages for scrap paper.
Silly, silly me!
Glad I didn't use more than I did.

Design Wall Monday

These blocks make me all caught up with the Sow-A-Long at Barrister's Block.

They also depleted my red/white-cream/blue bonus half square triangles.  I still have a nice collection of other colors though.

I never thought I would use so many of them but this project with it's 6" blocks has used up oodles.  And it's fun to dig through and remember where they came from.

Saturday Sewing

While Ernie is off searching for the ever elusive elk,
I'm having an at home quilt retreat.

I made 2 midget blocks, I'll show you those on Tiny Tuesday.
See that green hunk under my ruler?
It's a hunk of shelf liner.
I learned about it from this post at Pat Speth's blog.
That little tip is one of the best around.

This is the November block for Carol Doak's BOM.

This is a block for the Sow-A-Long at Barrister's Block.

And another Sow-A-Long block.
I love having my little box of bonus half square triangles.
I am still 3 behind but I've got them ready to sew.

The rest of the day will be dinner and knitting and a movie.
I can't wait to see what happens tomorrow.

On The Needles

I wish I was in a hurry to finish this pair of Jeck Socks. If I want to successfully complete the 12 in 2012 Sock Challenge, I need to get busy and start November's socks.  I have picked out my yarn but not a pattern yet.  I'd like to sit down this morning and finish these while my pinto beans are soaking (Judy L's post lit a fire under my behind to get some beans canned.). The toes are started so it won't take too long.

These are the finished Sutton Spirit Socks.  I am ready to put my feet in them and give them a test wear.

Check out other On The Needle Projects here at Patchwork Times.

10:20 Edit

TAAADAAA  Pair #10 complete!

Tiny Tuesday-Block 5

I know it's not Tuesday and I know I'm late but that's fine.

I LOVE this sweet little pineapple block!
When I packed for retreat, I took along several of these Midget Blocks thinking that I would do a few.

  Wrong.

I didn't even take the notebook out of my bag.
Now that I have several kitted up I should be able to get a few more done.
And I'm not under the influence of 20+ others that distract me at the sound of a giggle.

I'm linking up with Darling Jill's Tiny Tuesday.

Lazy Day

Soctoberfest is officially over for me today. I finished the Sutton Spirit Socks.  This is completed pair #9 for the year.  My Jeck socks that I put down for Soctoberfest came out and I worked on them for a while.  It's been 5 weeks since I've touched them and thank goodness the pattern was in the bag.

I did look for a new pattern for socks #11 but I didn't find anything that made me jump up and down.  So I'll  keep on looking.  I'm still wanting to do toe up.  Good thing I don't have to decide anything tonight.

I woke up this morning feeling kind of puny so I did my chores inside and out and kind of lazied in the recliner. I watched all my DVR shows and knitted and napped.  I think I took 4 naps today and I'm thinking of going to bed early. I hope this isn't a sign of anything but the fact that I've had so much fun in the last 3 weeks.

Design Wall Monday

Last night while putting some things away from retreat, I picked up the Hawaiian Sunset bin and opened it up to pet the block parts. I couldn't resist putting a few of them up on the wall.  Oh how I wish I had my sashing and cornerstone cut so they could be up there too. All this color just makes me happy.

Today will be catch up day for me from my fun weekend. If I have time to sew, I will be sewing on this.  Check other great design walls at Patchwork Times.

Fall Retreat #2 Report

 Retreats are so much fun.
Two retreats within 3 weeks sure leave me exhausted!
It's not a bad thing.

I made 6 more Pineapple Crazy blocks.
I now have 32 and my scrap basket is a whole lot fuller thanks to my friends.
This quilt is going to be filled with love from my friends.
It will be like a giant hug all the time.

I am so excited about the progress made on Hawaiian Sunset 1845.
I think sometime this week all the blocks will be put together.

I go home during the day to check on the chickens and
let the dogs run and take care of their business.
Day 1 when I came back these bags of scraps were piled in my chair.
I wanted to cry with happiness.
I have such awesome friends.
Thank you Francie.

Friday morning Cookie taught (or tried to teach) a group of us to make Temari Balls.
If you have never seen these, search Google Images and be amazed.
Above is what mine is supposed to look like and my beginning.

This is a horrid photo of side 1.
I'm saying not bad for my first attempt.

This is the beginning of side 2.
Better but I still need to work on it.
I really do like doing this.
It terrifies me that I have another passion.
You know what I mean.

It was a perfect weekend full of friends and fun.
Well, there was that one incident that we won't talk about...........

On The Needles

Soctoberfest is over and I'm still working on my 2nd pair of Opal socks.  These are the Sutton Spirit Socks.
I still have about an inch to go before the toe decrease and maybe sometime this weekend that will happen. Or maybe not because it's retreat weekend and it's hard to knit and sew at the same time.  Then in throw all the laughing and talking.

See other great projects that have linked to Patchwork Times here.
